Reader Deals! TP at Walgreens/ Oreos at Walmart

Wow- you guys are awesome! Thanks for texting/ e-mailing/ facebooking with all the great deals you're finding! Here are two great ones:

Rita found Cottonelle double roll 4 pks clearanced to $.87 at her local Walgreens in Owasso, Okla. There are a few various $.50/1 or $1/2 coupons available from blinkies, tearpads, and one from the 8/23 insert. Even without a Q, this is a sweet deal on TP. Pair it with a Q for a steal! Hat tip to Rita!

Kristen found Strawberry Milkshake and Hot Fudge Sundae Oreos on sale at the Siloam Springs, Ark. Walmart for 2/$4. The best part? The packages had $1/1 peelies, making these Oreos only $1 per package! As Kristen reminded us, it's not a bad idea to stash away a few cheap snacks so that you'll have some on hand when you need to take goodies to an event, school party, etc. Hat tip to Kristen!

A Few Frugal Musings

Hello, Frugal Muse readers. First, let me say thanks for your patience as I've been rather quiet on this blog during the last week and a half. We've been pretty busy with my husband's parents visiting from California!

Also, I've been taking some time to consider what to do with this blog. I launched The Frugal Muse back in March to help a few of my friends and family get started with couponing. I didn't imagine that so many of you would become regular readers. It's been so fun!

Over the past couple of weeks I've been trying to decide whether to keep the blog going or not. I had just about decided to give it a break for a while, but then this week I have run into several of you who have told me how much this blog has helped your families over the past few months. Even though there are a LOT of other frugal blogs available, it seems that this little corner of the blogosphere is still specifically helping lots of families. So for the time being, I'm going to keep it rolling.

With that said, on to more great deal posting! Thanks for being great readers!

Frugal Fitness

What are the three biggest deterrents to getting in shape and losing weight? For me, it boils down to these three: time, money, and self-discipline. I wanted to share with you all a system for losing weight and getting in shape that is really working for me at this stage of life! It's been a good system for me because it takes care of deterrents one and two: time and money. Just add a little self-discipline (I'm working on this one....), and I'm good to go!

Here are my two Most Valuable Products for getting in shape:

MVP Product #1. The 30 Day Shred DVD by Jillian Michaels.

Saves money: No expensive monthly gym membership fee required. This DVD will run you less than $12 bucks at Amazon.com (I used gift cards I earned from Swagbucks, so I got it free- even better!).

Saves time: The 30 Day Shred gives you a great workout in only 20 minutes per day. As a mom of toddlers, I LOVE that I can dedicate a small amount of time each day and get such an effective workout!

MVP #2. "Lose It!" App on my iPhone.

Saves money: If you already own an iPhone, this app is completely free. It's an AWESOME tool with no out-of-pocket expense!

Saves time: Lose It! allows you to set up a personal profile with your age, weight, current weight, goal weight, and desired rate of weight loss (up to 2 lbs per week). It then gives you a daily calorie "budget." You input everything you eat throughout the day and any exercise you do, and Lose It! automatically calculates how many calories you consume. If you stay under your calorie budget every day, you will lose weight at the rate of loss you have selected. Although if you're like me, it takes a mental adjustment to track everything you eat every day, this app saves SO much time and mental energy by calculating your caloric intake and calories burned through exercise every day!

Let me tell you, I am so thrilled at how this MVP line-up is working for me! After about one month, I've lost 10 lbs and am well on my way to my goal weight! It feels so great to be getting in shape and losing the weight that I've been wanting to shed!

How about all of you? Any tips for frugal fitness?

Angel Food Ministries

Are you familiar with Angel Food Ministries? It is a non-profit grocery assistance program that is available to everyone!

I often have people tell me that they want to spend less on their monthly household expenses, but they don't have time to clip coupons and seek out sales. I totally understand this. Coupon clipping is not for everyone in every stage or circumstance of life. But there are lots of savings strategies that families can utilize without ever clipping coupons. Angel Food Ministries is one of those strategies.

Here's how it works:

2. Check out the monthly menu and decide what your family needs.
3. Make your monthly order with the host site before the order deadline. (Payment is due when you order)
4. On distribution day, take a large box or bin to your distribution site and pick up your food. To save time and energy, you can pay for the next month's order on pick-up day if you like.

Angel Food Ministries is generally a very good deal for just about anybody's grocery needs, especially because it always includes plenty of meat, fruits and vegetables: items that very rarely go on sale or have coupons. For families that are not couponing, it is a fantastic deal for the amount of food you get. The key is that you must commit to using all the food and not letting it go to waste, even if it's something that is not a standard menu choice for your family.

Check out what you can get through Angel Food in September for only $30:

(3) 8 oz. ribeye steaks
(2) large split chicken breasts
(4) 6 oz. pork chops
(4) 6 oz. 100% white meat turkey burgers
4 lb. chicken thighs
1 lb. 80/20 lean ground beef
12 oz. deli sliced ham
1 lb. frozen sweet potatoes
1 lb. frozen green beans
15 oz. pears
12 oz. orange juice concentrate
3 lbs fresh idaho potatoes
3 lbs. fresh onions
2% shelf stable milk
1 dozen eggs
1 family dessert item

If you try to replicate that box of food at your local grocer for under $30... you'll quickly learn what a steal this is.

In addition to the monthly standard box offered above, every month there are several other options to choose from as well. This months additional options include:

Frozen and Allergen-free food box for $35 (contains 5lbs of frozen foods and
4.5 lbs of dry mix products that are safe for people with peanut, soybean, milk, fish tree nut and gluten allergies!)
Senior Convenience Meal Box for $28
7 lb. Assorten Meat Grill Box for $23
5 lb. Assorted Meat and Chicken Combo for $22
11 lb. Split Chicken Breast Box for $22
Premium Fresh Fruit and Veggie Box for $22

P.S. My apologies for the formatting issues on this post. Blogger isn't cooperating with me today! I have tried to fix it, to no avail... and finally decided that you are smart folks and can figure out what I'm trying to say here. :-)
